Lupinus polyphyllus
Washington lupin is a striking perennial that produces tall spires of colorful flowers from late spring into summer, thriving in full sun to partial shade with well-drained, slightly acidic soil. It is a nitrogen-fixing plant, naturally improving soil fertility, and requires little fertilizing as a result. Cut back flower spikes after blooming to encourage a second flush and divide clumps every few years to maintain vigor.
