Welted thistle is a robust biennial to short-lived perennial suited to wildflower meadows, rough grasslands, and naturalized garden areas. It tolerates a wide range of soils and produces purple-pink flower heads that are highly attractive to bees, butterflies, and goldfinches. It self-seeds freely, so deadhead after flowering if you wish to prevent it from spreading.
