Alpine timothy is a compact, cool-season perennial grass native to mountainous and subalpine regions, making it highly cold-hardy and well suited to rock gardens or alpine plantings. It grows slowly and requires little care beyond occasional watering in dry spells and a sunny to partially shaded position in well-drained soil. Its cylindrical seed heads provide late-season interest and are a valuable seed source for small birds.
