Arctostaphylos nortensis, known as the Del Norte manzanita, is a rare, slow-growing California native shrub that demands excellent drainage and low-nutrient, acidic soils. It is adapted to cool, partly shaded conditions and does not tolerate overwatering or heavy clay soils. Avoid fertilizing and disturbing the root zone to keep this sensitive species thriving.
