Bird's-nest orchid

Bird's-nest orchid is a fully mycoheterotrophic plant that obtains all nutrients from soil fungi, making it virtually impossible to cultivate outside its native woodland habitat. It requires deep shade, undisturbed leaf litter, and a specific fungal partner — it cannot be grown in containers or typical garden soil. This species is best appreciated in the wild and is protected in many European countries.
