California veratrum is a bold, architectural native perennial with large pleated leaves and tall plumes of creamy white flowers in summer, ideal for moist meadow or streamside plantings. It prefers rich, consistently moist soil in partial to full shade and performs best in cool mountain or Pacific coastal climates. Handle with care as all parts of this plant are highly toxic — wear gloves when working around it and keep it away from children and livestock.
