Checkerberry (Gaultheria procumbens) is a charming, low-growing evergreen groundcover native to eastern North American woodlands, prized for its glossy leaves, delicate white flowers, and bright red wintergreen-scented berries. It thrives in acidic, humus-rich, consistently moist soil in partial to full shade, making it ideal under acid-loving trees like pines and oaks.
