Chloropyron maritimum subsp. maritimum

Salt marsh bird's-beak is a rare hemiparasitic annual native to coastal salt marshes of California and northwestern Mexico, and it requires very specific saline, wet soil conditions to survive. It parasitizes the roots of nearby salt marsh plants and is extremely difficult to cultivate outside its native coastal wetland habitat. This plant is not suited for typical home gardens and is primarily of interest to conservation-focused native plant restoration projects.
