Common burdock
Arctium minus
Common burdock is a tough, adaptable biennial that thrives in full sun with average moisture and tolerates a range of soil types. Plant it with plenty of space, as it develops a deep taproot and large basal leaves in its first year before flowering and setting seed in its second. Its burr-like seed heads can spread readily, so deadhead spent flowers if you wish to limit self-seeding.
