California privet is a fast-growing, adaptable shrub widely used for hedges and privacy screens, tolerating a range of soil types and light conditions. It responds well to regular pruning, which should be done two to three times per year to maintain a tidy shape. Note that its berries are toxic to people and pets, so plant with caution in family gardens.
