Chinese privet is a vigorous, adaptable shrub tolerant of a wide range of soils and light conditions, making it easy to grow but requiring regular pruning to keep it in check. It produces fragrant white flower clusters in summer that attract pollinators, followed by small dark berries eaten by birds. Note that Chinese privet is considered invasive in many parts of the southeastern United States and should be used with caution.
