Phytolacca americana var. americana

Common Pokeweed is a vigorous, large-statured native perennial widely recognized for its dramatic magenta stems and dark purple berries beloved by songbirds. It establishes easily in a range of soils and light conditions, spreading readily by seed, so give it plenty of space in a naturalistic or wildlife garden. All parts of the plant are toxic if ingested by humans or pets, so handle with care and site accordingly.
